Health authorities are working to identify the source of infection
Three members of a family in Ho Chi Minh City have tested positive for the novel coronavirus after one of them signed up for a health check at a local hospital.
The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control confirmed on Wednesday that the three family members reside in District 1, a central business district.
The family cluster was detected after a woman came to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases on Sunday to seek treatment for her fever and body aches.
She later tested positive for COVID-19 and was confirmed as patient No. 9,487 by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday afternoon.
The patient is being treated at the makeshift hospital for COVID-19 treatment in Cu Chi District.
Epidemiological investigation revealed nine direct contacts, including her husband and two children.
The husband and two children then had their samples collected for rapid COVID-19 testing, and the results of two of them came back positive.
The two patients were admitted to the makeshift hospital for COVID-19 treatment in Can Gio District, while the remaining family member was quarantined along with the other direct contacts.
Health authorities are working to identify the source of infection.
The neighborhood with about 500 people where the family resides has been temporarily locked down.
Vietnam has recorded 9,723 COVID-19 cases as of Thursday afternoon, with 3,636 recoveries and 55 deaths, according to the health ministry.
The country has logged 6,537 local infections in 39 out of its 63 provinces and cities since April 27, including 542 cases in Ho Chi Minh City.
