This is the final step before the project begins commercial operations
Trung Nam Group, an energy company in Ho Chi Minh City, held a flag-raising ceremony on Sunday afternoon after the last wind turbine was installed at its VND5 trillion (US$219.4 million) Dong Hai 1 project in southern Tra Vinh Province.
Dong Hai 1 is an offshore wind power project with a total capacity of up to 100 MW, funded by Trung Nam Tra Vinh 1 Wind Power JSC, a member of Trung Nam Group.
About 1,100 engineers and workers finished erecting the last of 25 wind pillars at the project on Sunday afternoon, ten months after its construction started.
They used a total of more than 18,000 metric tons of steel and buried 115,000 meters of steel piles into the seabed to build foundations for the wind pillars.

Each wind pillar is capable of producing four megawatts, and the project will generate 330 million kWh of clean electricity per year once in stable operation in the Mekong Delta province.
The installation of the wind turbines is the final step before the project’s commercial operation date, when the facility officially starts to generate power for the national grid.
A total of 106 wind power plants nationwide with a combined capacity of more than 5,655 MW have registered to conduct commercial operations and join the national grid, according to Vietnam Electricity, a state-owned utility.
As of early August, 21 wind power plants able to produce 819 MW had begun commercial operations, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
