The heaviest downpours during the period are expected between October 6 to 10
Rain is forecast to increase in intensity across southern Vietnam during the first ten days of October.
Due to a trough – a region of low atmospheric pressure – medium to heavy rain is expected to dampen many southern localities, including Ho Chi Minh City, on October 1 and 2, according to the southern hydro-meteorological station.
From October 3 to 5, rainfall will mainly occur in the evening and at night.
Between October 6 and 10, downpours accompanied by thunderstorms will increase in intensity and batter larger areas in the region.
The weather station also warned of dangerous weather phenomena such as whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts during the period.
Showers and thunderstorms along the coast from Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province to Ca Mau Province are in the forecast as well.
A southwest monsoon in the maritime area will produce winds at 20-40km per hour during the first few days of the period, but will strengthen from October 7 to 10.
Showers accompanied by strong winds and gusts will dampen the coastal area from Ca Mau to Kien Giang Provinces, as well as on Phu Quoc Island.
The total rainfall in southern Vietnam during the first ten days of October will be five to ten percent higher compared to 2019.
