A consortium comprising Denmark-based Semco Maritime A/S and Vietnam’s PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) M&C has been selected to construct two offshore substations for two wind projects in Taiwan.
The Hai Long 2 and Hai Long 3 offshore wind projects are located in the Taiwan Strait and operated by Yushan Energy, a subsidiary of low carbon energy developer Enterprize Energy and Canadian independent power producer Northland Power.
The sites will deliver more than 1GW of wind energy once commissioned in 2025-26, according to the developers.
After a long screening and bidding process, the consortium of Semco Maritime and PTSC M&C beat other competitors to successfully secure the professional service agreement for detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning of two offshore substations attached to the two projects with a fabrication volume of up to 18,000 metric tons.
Under the contract, the consortium will be responsible for the detailed engineering of the jackets and the procurement of partial materials, while constructing all project facilities at PTSC M&C’s fabrication yard in Vung Tau, a port city in the southern Vietnamese province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau, from the third quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2024.

PTSC M&C said in its announcement that the deal is an impressive achievement and a strategic breakthrough for the firm in the renewable energy services sector.
It is the first engineering, procurement, and construction project PTSC M&C is managing in the renewable energy sector and will be a very important premise for the company to develop its capacities for this service line.
