Ultraviolet (UV) levels in several provinces and major cities of southern Vietnam, namely Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Ca Mau, are projected to hit an alarming high from Sunday to Tuesday, according to local weather forecast agencies.
The UV index in the aforementioned locales is expected to vary between six and eight until Tuesday, as per the scale of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The scale suggests a UV reading of three to five to be of moderate risk, while 6-8 is specified as high risk and 8-19 as high risk for unprotected human skin.
Residents should don protective garments before leaving home to reduce risks of skin and eye damage over the next few days, experts suggested.
Meanwhile, the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center reported the arrival of a cold front in southern Vietnam on Saturday, which caused the temperature in the region to noticeably drop to the range of 29-32 degrees Celsius in daytime and 21-23 at night.
On Sunday, the temperature will slightly rise as the effect of the cold front is expected to wane.
However, mercury perceived on Sunday morning remained at a low of 22-24 degrees Celsius.
Provinces around Ho Chi Minh City will see temperatures sustain at 20-22 degrees Celsius in nighttime, which will surge to 30-33 degrees Celsius during the day.
