Ho Chi Minh City reported 45 virus-related deaths on Monday
The Ministry of Health documented 8,616 more coronavirus patients in Vietnam on Monday, in addition to 1,205 recovered patients and 101 deaths.
The latest infections, including 13 imported and 8,603 local cases, were logged in 57 provinces and cities, the ministry said, adding that 3,950 patients caught the virus in the community.
Ho Chi Minh City recorded 1,165 of the domestic transmissions, An Giang Province 660, Binh Duong Province 616, Tay Ninh Province 579, Dong Nai Province 558, Tien Giang Province 500, Binh Thuan Province 342, Hanoi 239, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 178, Can Tho City 125, Khanh Hoa Province 111, Quang Nam Province 41, Da Nang 13, and Hai Phong five.
Vietnam had reported 8,451 locally-infected patients on Sunday.
The Southeast Asian country has detected 1,030,096 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave flared up on April 27. A combined 861,699 of them have recovered from COVID-19.
Ho Chi Minh City has been the largest hotbed with 448,593 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 244,113, Dong Nai Province with 78,631, Long An Province with 36,599, Tien Giang Province with 21,280, An Giang Province with 18,118, Tay Ninh Province with 16,363, Kien Giang Province with 14,657, Dong Thap Province with 13,751, Khanh Hoa Province with 10,384, Can Tho City with 9,397, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 6,830, Hanoi with 6,471, and Da Nang with 5,231.
Vietnam confirmed merely 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.
The health ministry declared 1,205 patients recovered from the ailment on Monday, lifting the total to 864,516.
The toll has mounted to 23,183 fatalities after the ministry registered 101 deaths on the same day, including 45 in Ho Chi Minh City, 10 in An Giang Province, nine in Binh Duong Province, and the remainder in 12 other provinces and cities.
Vietnam has detected 1,035,138 infections since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit it early last year.
Health workers have given above 99.7 million vaccine doses, including 849,150 jabs on Sunday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8.
More than 35.2 million people have received two jabs.
Health authorities in the country of nearly 98 million people target to fully vaccinate 80 percent of the adults and 100 percent of those aged 12 to under 18 by the end of this year, according to a draft government plan for COVID-19 response in 2021-23.
From 2022 onward, 100 percent of people aged 12 and above will either be fully immunized against the coronavirus or even get booster shots.
Children from three to under 12 years old will be fully inoculated in accordance with World Health Organization guidelines.
