The 53-year-old patient died of septic shock, acute respiratory failure, and pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus
A woman in Ho Chi Minh City has passed away just one day after she was diagnosed with COVID-19.
The 53-year-old patient, coded No. 14,656, resided in Binh Tan District, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control confirmed on Sunday.
She tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday last week and was first admitted to Binh Tan District Hospital.
The woman was then transferred to Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital after she went into a coma later the same day.
She was given intensive care, breathing support, sedatives, muscle relaxants, antibiotics, vasopressors, and anti-inflammatories.
Her condition continued to worsen despite the treatment, and the patient died at 9:30 am on Friday.
The causes of her death were identified as septic shock, acute respiratory failure, and pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus.
This is the country’s 76th coronavirus-related death and the 41st in the current outbreak, which started on April 27.
Most of the deceased patients were elderly people with underlying diseases such as cancer, metastatic cancer, scoliosis, artificial kidney, and hepatitis among others.
Vietnam has documented 15,740 COVID-19 cases as of Monday morning, with 6,319 recoveries and 76 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.
The country has recorded 12,401 local infections in 48 provinces and cities since April 27.
