The 2021 Earth Hour was marked by multiple activities at three locations in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday evening.

The program was organized by the municipal Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation and other units, at the Youth Culture House and Hoan Cau Hotel in District 1, and AEON Mall in Binh Tan District.

According to the observation of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters, many areas and buildings in the metropolis turned off their lights for one hour from 8:30 pm.

At Hoan Cau Hotel, many young people lit up candles to form a 60+ logo as an activity to celebrate the Earth Hour.

Students of the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City also participated in the event by turning off all lights inside their rooms at their dormitory in Thu Duc City.

At the Youth Culture House and AEON Mall in Binh Tan, various activities were organized to mark the 2021 Earth Hour as well as raise awareness of environmental protection, such as green living challenges and cycling to generate electricity.

“Thanks to this program, I understand that I need to save more energy in my daily life,” said Thanh Dao, a 25-year-old resident in Binh Thanh District.

“It not only brings personal benefits, but also contributes to the protection of our planet.”

Hoang Lan, 37, manager of a café in District 1, said the venue had been taking part in the Earth Hour for four consecutive years.

“Many customers were surprised when we switched off all the lights, but they quickly enjoyed it when we replaced the lights with candles,” Lan stated.
