Vietnam’s Ministry of Health logged 13,321 coronavirus infections nationwide on Friday, along with 12,751 discharged patients and 275 fatalities.

Thirty-five provinces and cities reported 13,306 local cases while the country recorded 15 separate imported infections, the health ministry said.

The ministry had documented 12,399 domestically-infected patients on Thursday.

Over 8,600 of the additional domestic cases were detected in the community, with the remaining found in sectioned-off areas or centralized quarantine facilities.

Ho Chi Minh City confirmed 7,539 local infections, Binh Duong Province 3,563, Dong Nai Province 823, Long An Province 321, Tay Ninh Province 248, Can Tho City 37, Da Nang 30, and Hanoi 29.

Vietnam has registered 585,051 community transmissions in 62 out of its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth – and worst – virus wave emerged in the country on April 27.

Ho Chi Minh City is heavily impacted with 286,242 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 149,859, Dong Nai Province with 32,882, Long An Province with 27,537, Tien Giang Province with 11,430, Dong Thap Province with 7,749, Khanh Hoa Province with 7,173, Da Nang with 4,780, Hanoi with 3,957, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 3,807.

By comparison, Vietnam confirmed a combined 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in the previous three waves.

The health ministry documented 12,751 recoveries on Friday, bringing the total to 350,921.

The toll has soared to 14,745 deaths after the ministry recorded 275 fatalities on the same day, including 195 in Ho Chi Minh City and 41 in Binh Duong Province.

Vietnam has confirmed 589,417 patients since the COVID-19 pandemic first struck it early last year.

Health workers have administered around 25.9 million vaccine doses, including 1,168,812 shots on Thursday, since vaccination was rolled out on March 8.

Nearly 4.5 million people have been fully vaccinated.

Health authorities aim to immunize at least two-thirds of a population of nearly 98 million people against COVID-19 by the first quarter of next year.
