Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has announced the addition of Nguyen Xuan Thanh, a lecturer in public policy at Fulbright University Vietnam, to his economic advisory group.

Thanh, who holds master’s degrees in economics, finance, and public administration, currently lectures at the Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management and is a senior fellow at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School.

In addition to Thanh, Phuc has named Dr. Truong Van Phuoc, a member of the prime minister’s economic advisory group and former acting chairman of the National Financial Supervisory Commission, as a standing member of the economic advisory group.

Led by Nguyen Duc Kien, the economic advisory group now includes 16 members, two of which – Nguyen Xuan Thanh and Vu Thanh Tu Anh – are lecturers at Fulbright University Vietnam.

Other members of the group include top Vietnamese economists and public policy experts, namely Tran Dinh Thien, Nguyen Dinh Cung, Vu Viet Ngoan, Tran Hoang Nhan, Tran Tho Dat, Nguyen Duc Khuong, and Vu Minh Khuong.

The group is responsible for advising the government on medium- and long-term economic development strategies, plans, projects, and policies; as well as annual socio-economic development plans.

It also works on the monitoring and evaluation of policy implementation in order to suggest revisions and propose measures to cope with domestic and international economic developments.

The group offers its independent comments on the government’s major economic projects before submitting their conclusions to the Politburo and the National Assembly.
