Three flight simulator training centers in Ho Chi Minh City will be allowed to resume operation during the ongoing COVID-19 social distancing period, the municipal administration has announced.
In a dispatch issued on Monday, the local People’s Committee approved the proposal of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) on allowing three centers for pilot training on flight simulators to operate after four months of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
These facilities include the Airbus – Vietjet flight training center and two other centers under Vietnam Airlines Corporation and BAA Training Vietnam.
The city’s police are required to coordinate with the Department of Health and the Department of Transport to provide the CAAV with instructions in relation to the resumption of these centers.
In order to ensure flight safety, pilots need to attend regular training based on aircraft cabin simulators, and this training method cannot be replaced with any others, the CAAV explained in its proposal to the city’s administration.
All pilots engaging in such training must be administered two doses of COVID-19 vaccine and have a negative test certificate, said the CAAV.
They must also comply with epidemic prevention rules of the Ministry of Health and carry out disinfection before and after using flight simulators.
A maximum of four trainees is allowed for every flight simulator training session, the CAAV said.
Flight training centers are required to closely monitor pilots’ health conditions before, during, and after each training session, and immediately report any problems, if any, to the aviation authority.
The Southern Airports Authority will issue travel passes to pilots and those partaking in such training sessions to facilitate their travel during the social distancing period in the city.
Ho Chi Minh City has documented 215,821 COVID-19 cases, including 8,869 deaths, since the pandemic hit the country in early 2020, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday evening.
Nationwide, 449,489 patients and 11,064 fatalities have been recorded so far.
