Fifty-eight female traffic police officers underwent a month of training to prepare for the task
Vietnam’s first all-women police escort unit made its debut in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday.
The team comprises 58 female traffic police officers who each received over a month of training on operating specialized vehicles and handling simulated motorcade scenarios.
They also honed their observational skills and simulated several high-pressure situations.
This is the first all-female escort unit in Vietnam.
They will be tasked with leading motorcades transporting important individuals, including world leaders visiting Ho Chi Minh City, as well as parading during the nation’s major holidays.
The policewomen led their first official motorcade on August 16, escorting Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Vice-Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong during separate visits to Ho Chi Minh City, according to national radio station Voice of Vietnam (VOV).

Speaking at Tuesday’s launch ceremony, Senior Colonel Le Hong Nam, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Police, offered praise and encouragement to the policewomen who overcame personal circumstances to successfully complete their training.
Policewoman Tran Ly Vinh Hanh told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that participating in the squad is a huge point of pride for her.
After the launch ceremony, the escort team patrolled Tran Hung Dao Street in District 1.
