Throngs of shoppers started ‘hunting for’ Black Friday discounted items at shopping malls in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday night as the yearly shopping fever originating in the United States has revived after prolonged COVID-19 restrictions.

Bricks-and-mortar shops in Vietnam began observing Black Friday arguably in 2013.

As this year’s Black Friday falls on November 26, Thursday night saw hundreds of people thronging shopping malls in the southern city.

This is the first grand-style spree since in-store shopping was back following the COVID-19 curbs to battle the fourth coronavirus wave that started hitting the metropolis in late April.

Several brands offered discounts up to 70 percent, resulting in long queues of patiently-waiting shoppers.
