A man has been caught on CCTV breaking into a jewelry store in Ho Chi Minh City through its roof and stealing VND1.2 billion (US$51,700) worth of assets.

Police in District 12 have received a report from the shop owner and are now hunting for the suspect, a source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident took place at a jewelry store on TA16 Street in Thoi An Ward, District 12 on Sunday morning, according to preliminary information.

The thief broke into the store from the roof and took multiple rings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants, and cash worth approximately VND1.2 billion.

He then got out of the store the same way he came in.

The store owner discovered the burglary later that morning and noticed a hole in the ceiling.

He checked the CCTV footage and reported the case to local police officers.
