Prior to May 24, police units are tasked with raising people’s awareness of noise pollution and related laws
Ho Chi Minh City police will fine people and organizations for causing noise pollution after May 23 following a period of propagandizing and raising awareness of the issue.
The director of municipal Department of Public Security has issued a document providing police units in Thu Duc City and all districts with necessary measures to prevent and handle noise pollution in the city.
The effort to minimize noise pollution in the southern metropolis consists of two phases.
Prior to May 24, all police units are tasked with raising people’s awareness of noise pollution and related laws, as well as reminding them to comply with noise limits in residential areas.
From May 24, officers will focus on penalizing violators.
They will deal with noise pollution at neighborhoods, businesses, and service providers by carrying out regular and ad-hoc inspections.
The head of each police unit will be in charge of taking certain measures to prevent and promptly handle such violations in their corresponding areas.
Police units in Thu Duc City and all districts will be required to make regular reports regarding the effort on the 15th day of each month.

Vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Vo Van Hoan on Monday chaired a meeting with relevant authorities to review the results of the first phase.
Hoan asserted that the penalization should be based on Government Decree No. 167, while measuring noise levels is not necessary.
Pursuant to Decree No. 167, causing loud noise in residential areas and public places between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am are punishable by a fine of VND100,000-300,000 (US$4-13).
According to Nguyen Thi Thanh My, deputy director of the city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the 1022 web portal operated by the Department of Information and Communications received 1,061 reports related to noise issues from March 10 to April 19.
These reports were forwarded to the People’s Committee in Thu Duc City for finding solutions.
