Vietnam’s international airports, including Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City, Noi Bai in Hanoi, and Da Nang in the namesake city, recently received the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) issued by the Airports Council International (ACI) for aligning hygiene and epidemiology to prevent COVID-19.

Authorities at Tan Son Nhat International Airport announced the accreditation, a program that supports airports around the globe in introducing preventive hygiene, as well as health and safety measures against the coronavirus pandemic, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Da Nang International Airport was granted the AHA on December 4 and Noi Bai International Airport was officially acrredited late last month.

The ACI evaluated cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing where feasible and practical, staff protection, physical layout, passenger communications, and passenger facilities before granting the certification, which is valid for 12 months.

As many as 235 airports around the world had been granted the accreditation as of December 24, according to the AHA certificate airport map on ACI’s website.

Rendering the AHA certificate to Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the airdrome’s leaders opined that the accreditation will motivate their employees to carry out better safety measures for airport staff and passengers, creating a confidence in the airport’s services.

The leaders hope that the government and relevant regulators will consider reopening certain international routes among certified airports, creating a safety corridor from airports to airports and contributing to the reduction of damage caused by COVID-19 to the global aviation industry.

Established in 1991, the ACI is the only global trade representative of the world’s airports.
