A man from Ho Chi Minh City has been arrested for locking up a married couple inside their house and setting it on fire, killing the husband and severely injuring the wife.

Tran Hieu, 30, who hails from south-central Binh Thuan Province, was captured by police in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday night.

The two victims were P.L., 32, and his wife, 27-year-old N.T.B.L., who rented a house on Nguyen Van Thanh Street in Long Thanh My Ward, Thu Duc to live and sell flowers.

According to preliminary investigation and Hieu’s statement, he locked the door of L.’s house from the outside at around 0:50 am on Tuesday.

The suspect then went to the back of the house, poured gasoline through the window, and set it on fire.

As the victims screamed for help, local residents tried in vain to open the locked door.

The married couple could only get out when firefighters arrived at the scene and forced open the door.

They were rushed to the hospital with severe burns.

The husband succumbed to his serious injuries later the same day.

Hieu claimed to sell flowers in the area, adding that he committed the crime due to a business conflict between him and the married couple.
